for bandwidth saving for day-parted and
virtual services
Application Overview
Broadcast Manager provides advanced tools for scheduling
content based on service profiles, and power tools to generate
complex
schedule patterns for NVOD, series, and barker channels. Broadcast
Manager displays the association of offers and programming and
uses this information to synchronize the CA, EPG and SMS subsystems
to make executing the most complex marketing offers effortless.
It also simplifies advanced guide presentations and navigation
such as Mosaics. Broadcast Manager synchronizes and works in conjunction
with the subsystems that position antennas, tune receivers, or
switch signals, record and playout content. It provides complete
control over service definition. It supports day-parted services
(where each service uses the compression resource for part of the
day) for efficient re-use of compression resources and minimizes
bandwidth use by simplifying the task of creating virtual channels
(for example, multiple services constructed with the same video
stream, but different language audio streams) and bandwidth stealing
(where a premium program scheduled on a service can borrow bandwidth
from or override base services).
Business Rationale
Scheduling complexity increases with the number
and types of services offered. SunUp's Broadcast Manager
handles turnaround channels and originated channels with ease.
Frame accurate scheduling ensures
perfect presentation, power tools simplify NVOD, barker, and promo
scheduling, and intelligent interaction with other subsystems makes
complex offer management such as clear-to-scrambled transitions
and sports blackouts easy. SunUp's Broadcast Manager creates
a better look and feel to the subscriber, saves money by reducing
operational workload, and enables sophisticated marketing efforts.
Bandwidth-saving features help pack more services into the available
bandwidth. Broadcast Manager integrates fully with other optional
SunUp software modules to facilitate even greater overall operational
efficiencies.
